“Young Turks Show Speed but falter at Wakefield”

By Peter Fitzgerald

After the disaster of the AGP event it was time to regroup, do some serious testing and try and find some extra pace. We did this by scheduling a test day a Calder Park to try and improve on my braking technique. We also found a small problem with the car which stemmed from the initial build by Porsche. The rear bump stops are a progressive design and had been installed upside down at the factory. This presumably may have had an effect on power down out of corners. We rectified this and headed off to Calder. By the end of the day we were quite pleased having bettered my best time in preseason testing by .5 sec. and close to times previously set by Alex Davison and Jonathon Webb..

Then it was off to Wakefield Park in NSW for a test day. I invited Luke Youlden, who finished 4th in last year’s championship, and is a contracted driver for long distance races to Stone Bros. racing in Super V8’s, to come along to help me gauge what speed we needed to find. We had heard all sorts of rumours about times various teams had done in their tests and it seemed that a 1 min flat was considered a good time. Of course the other variable is always the track condition but by the end of the day I was quite happy with my 60.4 which was just .4 sec. off Youlden at a 1 min flat.
