By Peter Fitzgerald " Fitzgerald Racing back on podium....Nearly!!! ”After Darwin it was back to Melbourne to carry out some preventative maintenance on the cars which are proving to be much more suspect to drive -train failures than our last car. This we believe is brought about as a result of running the new sequential gearbox which contributes to more strain on the driveline components. The other factor which we believe has the greatest influence is the fact that we have standing starts, and I have been advocating for some time now for Carrera Cup to revert to rolling starts, which would save us on failures of clutches, drive shafts and gearboxes, but so far my calls have fallen on deaf ears. After stripping, examining and crack testing components we were alarmed at the maintenance required after only 4 meetings in a new car. I had to replace 3 rd gear and the LSD in my box and 1 st gear, the LSD and the crown wheel and pinion in John Kaias’ box. Before carrying out this maintenance I spent a day up at Winton testing another driver, Greg Ritter. As I have mentioned before I am on the lookout for someone to take over the driving role next year and this was an opportunity to test Greg.
