Darwin Disaster Round 3 Carrera Cup 2006

By Peter Fitzgerald

Preliminary

After Wakefield it was back to Melbourne to prep for Darwin. We only had one promotion scheduled over this time and that was for Revolution Racegear, who is one of our valued sponsors. Our display car engine was in bits as we fixed the damaged from our Oran Park drive day. So we used the 997 Cup car for the display over 2 days at the Melbourne Revolution headquarters. It was their end of financial year sale and from all reports the car attracted a lot of interest.

Practise and qualifying

I was really happy with my improved position relative to others who had been quicker to date such as Wall, Jane etc and finishing 11th fastest after Fridays practise sessions was encouraging. Even better was that in qualifying I was lying 4th when I pitted for my second set of tyres early in the session and had improved 1.2 seconds on our Friday's times. Unfortunately though we slipped back to 11th as the others improved, but we were only .7sec off pole this time which was a great improvement over this year's previous efforts, and still I was ahead of Tratt, K Quinn, Jane and Wall, who had previously qualified ahead of me. We hadn't done any testing since Wakefield but I have been working on my fitness and I'm sure that has been a factor.
